NORTH HAVEN — Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) has hired former Naugatuck Superintendent of Schools Sharon Locke as its new assistant director of professional development and school improvement.

ACES Executive Director Thomas Danehy said in a news release that Locke brings over 24 years of experience in public education to ACES.

“Her commitment to leadership and equity in education coupled with her extensive experience as a superintendent, chief academic officer, principal and counselor will enhance ACES ability to support and serve its school districts,” he said in the release.

Locke worked as superintendent of Naugatuck Public Schools from 2014 until her contract expired on June 30. She did not seek to renew her contract with the Naugatuck Board of Education. She will earn $87,000 for the part-time position with ACES, the release stated.

Locke said she looks forward to continue contributing to and supporting Connecticut’s public schools.

“ACES mission of transforming lives through education, innovation and leadership, and its vision of creating an equitable and socially just world one life at a time is one that deeply resonates with me, and my commitment to equity. Our collective purpose is to ensure that each and every child thrives in our schools,” said Locke in the release.

ACES is the regional educational service center for New Haven and parts of Middlesex counties. ACES provides programs and services to its member districts, and also operates three magnet and eight special education schools.
