BEACON FALLS — Beacon Hose Company No. 1 is hoping this weekend’s Octoberfest will be the first of many to come.

The company is hosting its inaugural Beacon Hose Octoberfest on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the firehouse, 35 North Main St.

The idea to host an Octoberfest initially came about as a way to give back to the community for its support of the company’s annual carnival over the summer, Beacon Hose Fire Chief Brian DeGeorge said. The more company members looked into the idea, the more they felt like the town needed an event for this time of year, he said.

“It seemed like it would be a fun thing to do,” DeGeorge said.

The Octoberfest will feature the typical autumn fanfare — food, beers and fall-themed drinks. There also be activities for children and adults, including a pumpkin patch and carving station, an inflatable obstacle course, jousting arena and a bounce house, and games during the day.

The annual firemen’s carnival in July is the volunteer company’s largest fundraiser. DeGeorge said the company isn’t looking to make money with the Octoberfest this year and is hosting it more to have a community event. He said the hope is that this will be the start of a new tradition that will grow over the years.

“We’re hoping it will continue and it gets bigger every year,” DeGeorge said.
