PROSPECT — The Region 16 Board of Education this month appointed Christopher Decker as Woodland Regional High School’s new athletic director and dean of students.

Decker will replace Brian Fell, who is retiring after this school year, effective July 1. His salary will be $102,854, according to Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin.

Decker has worked as a social studies teacher at Woodland for the past 15 years and filled a part-time dean of students role for four years. He his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his Sixth Year Certificate in education administration and supervision from the University of Bridgeport.

During his time at Woodland, Decker has also served in various leadership roles, including as the safe school climate specialist, chair of the school wide data team and adviser for the HawkWings kindness program.

“Chris is a dedicated professional who has been an integral part of the Woodland family,” a letter sent to the community by the superintendent’s office announcing the appointment states.

The school board created the athletic director and dean of students position last summer as part of a restructuring of the administrative positions at Woodland. Before this school year, Woodland had a principal, assistant principal, a combined assistant principal and athletic director, and a part-time dean of students. The restructuring made the assistant principal and athletic director position strictly an assistant principal. Under the restructuring, the dean of students and athletic director positions were combined into a full-time position that handles disciplinary issues and oversee athletics.
