PROSPECT — The Region 16 Board of Education voted last month to eliminate a newly-created instructional aide position.

The 2019-20 budget for the region, which is comprised of Beacon Falls and Prospect, includes several new instructional aide positions, including one for every first grade classroom.

An instructional aide positon was also created to oversee a world language program for fifth-graders that will use Rosetta Stone software. Superintendent of Schools Michael Yamin said this position will be eliminated and an aide that works at Long River Middle School will be moved to oversee the program. The money for the positon in the 2019-20 budget will be reallocated into the board’s contingency fund, he said.
