NAUGATUCK — The borough’s annual Fourth of July celebration will be held Wednesday at Naugatuck High School.

The celebration begins at 6 p.m. and will feature a DJ, food vendors, along with family and children activities. At 6:45 p.m. the Veteran’s Council will hold a flag raising ceremony. The evening will conclude with a fireworks show set to start between 9:15 and 9:25 p.m.

“Come and have a good time,” Recreation Director Kim Eyre said.

The event costs about $16,000 to put on each year. The borough pays part of the cost, $10,000 this year, and the Park and Recreation Department raises the rest. The department is still tying to raise about $2,000 to cover the expenses.

“It’s going to happen no matter what,” Eyre said about the celebration. “If we don’t raise the money, we’ll do it anyway and figure it out.”

Kids Create at 677 Rubber Ave., will hold a fundraiser Saturday for the event. Children can come between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and use the materials provided to create art and craft projects, play dress-up or build with blocks, said Linda Ramos, a volunteer helping the borough raise money.

Admission is $5 for a child to play with the toys there, including dress-up costumes and building blocks, and $8 to create an art project. From every project Saturday, $2 will go toward the Fourth of July celebration, with an overall fundraising goal of $250.

A fundraiser June 14 at Ayash-Man Restaurant on Rubber Avenue netted nearly $200, Eyre said.

Donations are being accepted via PayPal on www.naugatuck-ct.gov, or by sending a check to the Fourth of July Fund at Naugatuck Savings Bank, 87 Church St., Naugatuck, CT 06770.

A rain date for the celebration is scheduled for July 5. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (203) 720-7071.
