FireDepartmentNAUGATUCK — Firefighters battled a brush fire Friday afternoon that spanned more than 3 acres off Pear Tree Drive, an undeveloped section of the Fawn Meadow subdivision.

Fire Marshal Robert Weaver was in the area doing an inspection when he noticed the fire just after 3 p.m. When firefighters responded, the flames were 200 feet into the woods, but the wind blew it closer to the road, said Lt. Michael Chatfield of the Naugatuck Fire Department.

Two fire crews attacked the blaze from opposite ends with forestry hoses hooked to hydrants, Chatfield said. The job was labor intensive because they had to navigate around downed trees and tall thorny bushes, Chatfield said. Firefighters were on scene for more than two hours, Chatfield said.

Nobody was injured and no property was damaged, Chatfield said.
