CNLogo1Fayad receives nursing scholarship

WALLINGFORD — Kelly Fayad of Naugatuck has been named a 2013 recipient of Masonicare’s Norma J. Brandt Nursing Scholarship.

Fayad was one of seven 2013 scholarship recipients honored at a reception held Aug. 23 at Masonicare at Ashlar Village in Wallingford. She is pursuing an associate of science degree in nursing from St. Vincent’s College. 

The Norma J. Brandt Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through a gift to The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut, the philanthropic affiliate of Masonicare. John O. Brandt, Jr., a Mason from Putnam Lodge No. 46 in South Woodstock, established the fund in memory of his late wife, Norma, a registered nurse.

To qualify, applicants must be a Masonicare employee, the child or grandchild of a Masonicare employee, or be affiliated with a Masonic organization, either as a member or as a child or grandchild of a member.  Fayad is an employee of Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. 

Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to the nursing profession and emulate Norma’s “love of nursing, positive attitude, and warm, giving nature.”

Naugatuck Savings Bank listed among top workplaces

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Savings Bank was listed among the top 10 workplaces in southwest Connecticut in the category of midsized companies and was among the top 35 workplaces of any size in an annual employee satisfaction survey of workers in Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven Counties.

The third annual employee survey was taken this spring by nearly 8,200 workers in southwest Connecticut, according to a press release issued by the bank. Naugatuck Savings Bank finished 10th in the midsize (125 to 349 employees) company category and was listed among the 35 top workplaces in the region for 2013.  It was the only full-service bank and one of only three companies based in Greater Waterbury to appear among the 35 top workplaces.

Boulier added that being named among southwest Connecticut’s top workplaces “reinforced who we are and also told our customers that we have exceptional employees and that we put a lot of effort into hiring great people with winning attitudes who can provide unparalleled service to our customers.”

Local students earn degrees

WEST HAVEN — The following local students graduated from the University of New Haven Aug. 24:

John Daikus of Naugatuck received a bachelors of science degree in finance.

Cara Shamansky of Prospect received a bachelors of science degree in accounting.

Ashley Comer of Naugatuck received an M.A. in industrial/organizational psychology.

Erica Rosenfeld of Prospect received an M.B.A. in business administration.

Teixeira receives medical degree

BETHESDA, Md. — Army Capt. Jeffrey Teixeira recently graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.

Teixeira received a medical degree and was commissioned to the rank of captain, with a minimum 7-year active duty service commitment.  

The university manages a graduate nursing school, a graduate school with doctor of philosophy and master’s degree programs, and a medical school that prepares men and women to be physicians and scientists for careers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and U.S. Public Health Service in service to the nation.

Teixeira is a physician assigned to the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences at Bethesda, Md. He has served in the military for four years.

Teixeira, who gradated from Naugatuck High School in 2005 and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2009, is the son of Jose and Ana Paula Teixeira of Naugatuck.
