SEYMOUR — Cheers and chants erupted Tuesday as Democrat Theresa Conroy swept up her second consecutive term representing the 105th House District.
Conroy beat Republican challenger Robert Willis by 1,458 votes, or 4,462 to 3,004, earning two more years serving the district comprised of Beacon Falls, Seymour and Derby.
“I feel so humbled because to be a servant of the people is the best position you can ever have,” Conroy said, surrounded by her supporters at Hot Tamale Mexican Grill and Bar. “You know I respect you and you know I’ll go to bat for you. It is an honor to serve this community.”
Conroy, 57, a registered nurse and advanced nurse practitioner at CVS Minute Clinic, was first elected to represent the district in 2008, but lost the seat to Republican Leonard Greene Jr. in 2010.
Conroy defeated Greene in a second faceoff in 2012. The two were slated to go head-to-head again this year until Greene withdrew from the race in late August, citing family and work commitments.
“I’m so excited to have a consecutive term because I’ve already started work,” Conroy told her supporters. “Thank you for giving me this opportunity one more time.”
Willis, 30, a self-proclaimed Reagan Republican and vice-president of a marketing company in West Haven, served on Fairfield’s Republican Town Committee and as campaign manager on several GOP campaigns.
