NAUGATUCK — The Fire Commission issued Fire Capt. David Seeger a one-day unpaid suspension Thursday night.

The suspension stems from an incident that occurred during a commission meeting last week, according to Fire Chief Ken Hanks. Hanks declined to elaborate on the nature of the incident.

The suspension will be held for three months and will be taken out of Seeger’s file if no further incidents occur, Hanks said. If another violation occurs, the suspension will be administered immediately.

Seeger was placed on leave last week and other captains had been filling in for him on overtime, according to fire officials. The commission met in executive session last night to discuss the matter before issuing the suspension.

Seeger was recently honored as Firefighter of the Year by the Naugatuck Exchange Club for his involvement in fundraisers and other fire department activities.

A man who answered the phone at Seeger’s address in Middlebury hung up on a reporter seeking comment.

Seeger made more than $113,000 last year, including overtime.
