NAUGATUCK — Firefighters knocked down a structure fire on one of the hottest days of the year Tuesday.

Crews responded to 121 Aetna St. at about 1:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from a window of an apartment on the third floor, Capt. Walter Seaman said.

Upon entering the building, they found the fire in a bedroom of the apartment, Seaman said.

Despite the heat, the fire was extinguished quickly, he said. Firefighters rotated in, with limited manpower, and tried to remain hydrated.

There was an ambulance on standby, but no one was injured. Firefighters from Beacon Falls provided mutual aid. Seymour provided a rehab vehicle to supply Naugatuck firefighters with water, Seaman said.

The fire damaged the apartment and displaced the two adults and two children living in that apartment, Seaman said. The other five apartments in the building weren’t damaged, Seaman said.

The cause is under investigation, Seaman said.
