ProspectPolicePROSPECT — A 79-year-old Prospect woman died Friday after she was hit by a vehicle while cleaning snow from her driveway.

Mary McCormack, of 7 Straitsville Road, was pronounced died Friday night at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run accident. According to a press release, Troop I in Bethany received an emergency call at 8:35 p.m. reporting that someone was hit on Straitsville Road.

Prospect Resident State Trooper Matt Comeau said a resident of Straitsville Road was driving by and called police after spotting McCormack in the road. Comeau said emergency personnel responded during the height of this weekend’s blizzard and visibility was down to about 20 feet. It took emergency personnel about 10 minutes to respond to the scene and McCormack was found lying in front of her driveway, he said.

The preliminary investigation shows that McCormack was snow blowing her driveway when she was hit by an unknown vehicle, which left the scene. It’s unclear exactly what kind of vehicle hit McCormack or when she was hit, Comeau said.

The case remains under investigation and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Trooper Carl Schlicker at (203) 393-4200.
