NAUGATUCK — David J. Rotatori’s ascension up the ranks at Ion Bank culminated last week when the bank named the Naugatuck native chief executive officer.
“I am the luckiest person I know. Few people get the support I had throughout my life. From wonderful hard working parents and siblings, to tremendous leaders in business and the community, I have been surrounded by all-star individuals guiding and pushing me in the right direction,” Rotatori said in a press release. “The best part is the opportunity to lead Ion Bank. Besides having the A-Team from top to bottom, as a mutual bank, with no Wall Street shareholders, our mission is to do what’s in the best interest of our customers and the community.”
Rotatori succeeded former Ion Bank CEO Charles J. Boulier III, who retired at the end of 2018, in a transition plan that was laid out in July 2017 when Rotatori was named president and a director of the bank.
“He is so deserving of this promotion, and the company is fortunate to have a highly-regarded banking professional, energetic executive leader and progressive strategic thinker as our next president and CEO,” Boulier said in a press release.
Rotatori, a lifelong Naugatuck resident, started his financial career with Naugatuck Savings Bank, which has since become Ion Bank, from 1990 to 1995. He was first an accounting clerk and internal auditor. He went on to become senior auditor at KPMG, vice president and assistant controller at Webster Financial Corporation, and vice president, finance officer at People’s United Bank.
In 2009, Rotatori returned to Ion Bank as senior vice president, chief risk officer and chief administration officer where he became responsible for commercial loan administration, compliance and loan review.
Rotatori, who is married with three children, is also active in the community, including serving on the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls Board of Directors, on the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, and as president of the Ion Bank Foundation. He is also a board member for Simply Smiles, Inc., a nonprofit agency dedicated to building bright futures for impoverished children and their families on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation and in Mexico.
