NAUGATUCK — Officials with Peter J. Foley Little League were met by frozen pipes on the first day of registration for the upcoming season.

Ryan Murphy, secretary of Peter J. Foley Little League’s Board of Directors, said on Feb. 12 he noticed the frozen pipes at the clubhouse on Andrew Avenue.

“The furnace failed, and because we only have meetings every 30 days mid-winter, we had frozen pipes all the way back to the main before it was discovered,” he said.

Murphy said officials aren’t 100 percent sure yet the extent of the damage and may not know until everything thaws out.

“We know for sure that the main valve in our furnace room is cracked,” Murphy said.

Murphy said the league is looking for donations to help install a new heating unit at the clubhouse. Donations can be made to Peter J. Foley Little League, P.O. Box 242, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

Murphy said things could have been worse.

“In reality, had it happened during a warmer winter, it could have been much worse. We found the problem while everything was still frozen solid. Meaning, there is only a finite amount of water in the pipes when they thaw out,” Murphy said.
