NAUGATUCK — Police arrested a borough man on a warrant Tuesday following an investigation that police say started when the man shared child pornography on Instagram.

Police charged Michael Santos, 48, of 183 Auburn St., with second-degree possession of child pornography.

The investigation stated in October after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted Naugatuck police about someone sharing possible child pornography on Instagram, Deputy Chief C. Colin McAllister said. He said Instagram reported the incident to the center.

McAllister said police identified Santos as the Instagram user and that he shared sexual images of a boy that is believed to be younger than 13. Police seized Santos’ cellphone as part of the investigation, he said, and found numerous suspected images of child pornography.

Santos was released on a $7,500 bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on June 10.
