Obituary: Frederick Francis Fredette

NAUGATUCK — Frederick Francis Fredette, 80, widower of Diane B. (DiMenna) Fredette, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2018 at Valerie Manor in Torrington.

Fred was born on Feb. 17, 1938 in Bridgeport, son of the late Frederick J. and Frances Rose Fredette. Fred attended school in Bridgeport, and graduated from Warren Harding School in June 1956. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 5, 1956 and completed boot camp at Bainbridge, Md. Fred attended radio school, transferred to USS Forrestal CV-59. The Forrestal was part of the sixth fleet patrolling the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The Forrestal was involved in the Vietnam and Lebanon crisis. He served honorably and in June 1958 he earned the rank RM3. In June 1960, he was honorably discharged and joined the naval reserve, stationed in Bridgeport, and in July 1962 he completed two years reserve duty.

In October 1964, he married Diane B. DiMenna. In September 1963, he began employment with McLean Trucking in Stratford, until 1986 when they closed. In 1990, he enrolled at Housatonic Community College, earning an associate’s degree in accounting. In 1991, Fred became a licensed real estate agent and furthered his career in 1993, becoming a certified residential real estate appraiser. Starting in 1994, he began employment with MECA software in Fairfield, and in the year 2001 the company closed, forcing his retirement.

Fred is survived by his son, Frederick A. Fredette; his granddaughter, Allison M. Rainey; his son, Sean M. Fredette and his wife, Lori, and their son, John LaCardo, and his son, Scott C. Fredette. Fred was predeceased by his wife and parents.

All services were private and entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
