George A. Ravenscroft Sr.

TORRINGTON — George A. Ravenscroft Sr. passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17, at the age of 87.

He leaves behind his adoring wife of 67 years, Jean (Kwasniewski) Ravenscroft; daughter, Pamela Bessette; son, George Ravenscroft Jr.; son, Chris Ravenscroft; granddaughter, Lynne and her husband, Matt; two great-granddaughters; two grandsons, Morgan and Tristam; brother, James and his wife, Eleanor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Florence Ravenscroft, and his siblings, Jean, Joan and Jerry.

George was born in Foxborough, but resided in Naugatuck most of his life before moving to Southbury and finally, Torrington. He also enjoyed annual trips to their homes in Florida for many years.

After working for Uniroyal for over 30 years, ending up as manager of the Naugatuck treatment plant, George was president and co-founder of the New England Treatment Company. He was a dedicated employee wherever he was and was always extremely hardworking.

Through work and leisure, George and his family enjoyed traveling all over the country. He was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching and discussing the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and college basketball, particularly UConn. George loved being outside doing landscaping and was the definition of a jack of all trades. He could fix anything that was broken and take something that wasn’t broken and improve it. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George was compassionate, friendly and adored by those closest to him.

Funeral services will be privately held. The Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, is assisting the family with arrangements.
