CONWAY, S.C. — John J. (Jack) Smith, husband of the late Frances C. Smith, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015 at the age of 74 in Conway.

Jack was born in Waterbury, Conn., son of the late John L. and Bridget Smith. He served in the military from 1960-1968. He was a supervisor at Virjune Mfg, a past member of REMCO, Naugatuck Volunteer Fire Department and former captain of Naugatuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Jack and Fran owned and operated Oak Embers Camp Ground in West Greenwich, R.I., from 1987 until they retired to South Carolina in 2004.

He is survived by his four children, Rosemary (Joseph) Rider of South Carolina, who was his ultimate caregiver for his last year, John (Laurie) Smith of North Carolina, Jacqueline (Mark) Framski of Prospect, Conn., and Robert Smith of Watertown, Conn. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, and in laws. Jack was predeceased by Frances, his wife of 54 years and his only sister, Genevieve Maguire.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home immediately following the service. Calling hours will be held on Sunday Feb. 1, 2015 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
