NAUGATUCK — Mr. Sidney Charles Smith, 93, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Monday, Sept.15, 2014. He was the widower of Lucy (Sadlowski) Smith.

Mr. Smith was born in New York, N.Y. on March 17, 1921, a son of the late Walter and Mabel (Smith) Smith. He was a longtime Naugatuck resident and a retiree of Peter Paul Co. where he worked for 46 years. He was an Army veteran proudly serving during World War II. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially Yankees and UConn.

He leaves his children, Roger C. Smith and his wife, Judy, Gail Krol and Clarence Aspelund all of Naugatuck, Dave S. Smith and his wife, Denise “Cookie” Smith, of Prospect; a brother, Arthur Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Carrie Smith, Kathy Lahr and her husband, Tom, Carol Krol, Melissa Smith, Alexander Smith, Matt Bellino, Caitlin Smith, Meghan Smith; great-grandchildren, Destiny Adamski, Kai Lahr, Faith Foley and Ashton Triplett; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marsha Smith; siblings, Walter, Mabel Enright, Roy, Jack, Albert, Arthur, Blanche Buhr and Rose “Queenie” Getman.

Special thanks to companion aid, Shirley White; Alliance Medical Group, Dr. Elser, nurse Fran and Brie; Season’s Hospice, especially Bonnie and Jackie, for their compassionate care given to Sidney.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial–Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at 6:15 p.m.
