NAUGATUCK — An overflowing sink knocked out power at Beacon Brook Health Center Thursday afternoon.

Athena Health Care Systems spokesperson Tim Brown said a sink in one of the dining rooms at the 126-bed nursing home overflowed and the water trickled down to a breaker room, causing an electrical issue that knocked out power after 4 p.m.

A back up industrial generator provided power during the outage, he said, and everything was operational except the air conditioning and elevator. Power was restored at about 9 a.m. Friday, he said. An electrician was unable to repair the damage until Friday morning due to an issue with parts, he said.

Staff set up fans in the hallways and some rooms, and room temperatures were monitored throughout the night, Brown said.

“It was a change of plans for everything in the building,” Brown said. “They tried to operate as normal as possible.”

The Naugatuck Fire Department, state Department of Public Health and the Naugatuck Valley Health District were notified, according to Brown, and fire officials monitored the situation.
