NAUGATUCK — Prospect Street near the intersection of Union Street and Golden Court will be closed Friday while the Naugatuck Fire Department conducts a controlled burn.

The fire department is conducting training exercises, including live burns, using two vacant buildings, one a two-family home and the other the former Vinny’s Restaurant and Pizzeria, at 42-46 Prospect St. The training started Thursday, including a controlled burn of the vacant home. The former restaurant is set to be burned on Friday.

Police announced the road will be closed from about 2 to 5 p.m., and detours will be set up.

Traffic heading west on Prospect Street will be detoured onto Locust Street, to Wooster Street, to City Hill Street and to Union Street.

Eastbound traffic will follow the same detour in reverse starting from Union Street.

All tractor trailers heading west will be diverted onto Union City Road through the Naugatuck Industrial Park. All tractor trailers heading east will be diverted onto either Golden Court or Union Street toward Route 8.

Police urged drivers to use alternative routes.
