NAUGATUCK — Police have arrested a Milford man who they say robbed a Cumberland Farms store Friday night. Police say the same man is also suspected of two convenience store holdups in Waterbury earlier this month.

Brian Williams, 34, of Milford, was charged with robbery and larceny after police tied him to a 2 a.m. holdup at the North Main Street convenience store on Friday.

A clerk in the store told police a man walked into the store and asked for a pack of cigarettes. As the clerk was ringing him up, the man demanded cash, implying that he had a gun.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.

The man made off with about $200 and the pack of smokes. He was suspected of using a Chevy Impala to make his getaway. Police obtained surveillance footage from a nearby store that showed the car parked nearby before the robbery and the man walking toward the Cumberland Farms store.

Police coordinated with police in Waterbury in identifying Williams as a suspect. They also tracked down a family member in Naugatuck who identified Williams, who was later found at his mother’s home in Milford.

Williams is a suspect in holdups of two 7-Eleven stores in Waterbury on April 4.

In one of those holdups, a man walked into a Baldwin Street store after midnight, showed a clerk a knife and then demanded cash from the register.

A second 7-Eleven store was robbed on Cooke Street hours later. During that holdup, the man threatened that he had a gun, but didn’t show one. No one was injured during the robberies.

Williams, who has a robbery conviction that dates back to 2005, is being held on a $200,000 bond. Waterbury police expect to serve him with arrest warrants when he appears later this month in Waterbury Superior Court.
