PROSPECT — A 21-year-old Prospect man is facing multiple charges in connection with a stabbing Wednesday afternoon on Waterbury Road.

A state trooper was driving north on Waterbury Road, Route 69, Wednesday shortly before 5 p.m. when a man stepped into the road and in front of his unmarked cruiser near 14 Waterbury Road, police said. The man told the detective he had been stabbed multiple times and that the suspect was in the area behind 14 Waterbury Road — the site of an arson fire last week.

Police located the suspect, identified as John Satkunas, of 14-Rear Waterbury Road, Prospect, in the area. Police said Satkunas didn’t stop when ordered to and fled on foot. He was caught after a brief foot chase.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds, police said. His injuries were described as non-life threating. He was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Police didn’t disclose in the press release whether Satkunas and the victim knew each other or what led up to the assault.

Satkunas was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $1,000,000 bond and scheduled to be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court today.
