PROSPECT — With his family and members of the fire and police departments by his side, Tony Muniz was sworn in as the town’s new fire marshal during a ceremony at town hall on Feb. 26.
Muniz, a 56-year-old Prospect resident, has been a member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years and has served as the deputy fire marshal for 21 years.
Long-time Prospect Volunteer Fire Department member Keith Griffin, who died on Feb. 14 after a battle with cancer, served as the fire marshal for nearly 25 years.
Mayor Robert Chatfield said Muniz was the obvious choice to become the next fire marshal.
“He went to every single training as Keith’s assistant. He would take over when Keith was away or sick,” Chatfield said.
The position is 18 hours a week and earns a salary of about $35,000 a year, Chatfield said.
Chatfield said he will search to fill the deputy fire marshal position within the fire department.
