HARTFORD — State Rep. Rosa Rebimbas, R-Naugatuck, recently joined the legislature’s school safety working group.

The group was created earlier this year and seeks to conduct a comprehensive review of school safety in Connecticut on an ongoing basis, a press release stated. The group will also make recommendations for the next session in 2019. In addition to the legislators, the group will include school officials, law enforcement and first responders, mental health professionals, school security consultants, students and parents.

“As we’ve seen by the growing number of mass shootings across our country, school security is a major public safety concern that we need to address immediately,” Rebimbas stated in the release. “I believe this working group can make a difference by bringing all parties to the table to review best practices and explore all possible solutions to this problem.”

The group will convene again in May after the end of the legislative session.
