NAUGATUCK — The occupants of 115 Prospect St. are able to remain in their house after a car crashed into it during a Tuesday accident.

Two people live on the second floor of the house across from the Prospect Street School, Fire Chief Ken Hanks said. The accident damaged the exterior of the multifamily home, which is for sale and owned by Naugatuck Savings Bank. Contractors for the bank shored up the porch Wednesday with metal rods, Hanks said.

Neither resident was home at about 3 p.m. when a Subaru Legacy crossed the center line and crashed into the house after hitting a Chevrolet Malibu. The driver of the Malibu was hospitalized for pain.

The driver of the Subaru, 31-year-old Michael Oemcke of 587 Millville Ave., was cited for failing to drive on the right.

Police said they closed the investigation with the cause of the accident undetermined.
