BEACON FALLS — The Naugatuck Valley River Race scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

The annual race, which features canoers and kayakers paddling from Platts Mill Road on the Naugatuck and Waterbury border to the Depot Street Bridge in Beacon Falls, was canceled due to low water levels in the river, the race’s organizers announced on Facebook.

The race was canceled last year, as well, but for the opposite reason. The water was too high.

The race is part of a River Fest in Beacon Falls that includes the annual Beacon Falls Lions Club’s Duck Race. The duck race and the festival are still on for Saturday at Volunteer Park, behind the firehouse on North Main Street.

The festivities, which include live music, food and vendors, kick off at 11 a.m. The duck race is at 3:30 p.m. People can adopt a duck for $5 to participate in the race. Prizes are given to the top nine finishers.
