REGION 16 — The Region 16 Board of Education last week approved a new course to help students increase their SAT scores.

A new SAT prep course for juniors at Woodland Regional High School will be implemented next school year. The course is a semester-long class that will be taken on a pass/fail basis. Half of the course will focus on verbal SAT skills, while the other half will focus on math SAT skills. The course will be required for all juniors who do not score at least a 530 on both the verbal and math sections of the PSAT.

The SAT, which is administered by the College Board, was revised for 2016 to reflect the new Common Core State Standards. The state Board of Education recently adopted the SAT as the standardized test that would be administered to high school students to measure academic achievement.
