NAUGATUCK — After three years, the Whittemore Memorial Library will once again be opening its doors on Mondays.
Beginning Sept. 12, the library will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays. Due to budget constraints, the library cut its Monday hours three years ago. Since then, the library’s budget has been flat funded at $577,000 a year and the library remained closed on Mondays.

The library didn’t receive any additional funding this year, however the library Board of Trustees decided to open for a few hours on Mondays during this school year.

Library Director Jocelyn Miller said the library rearranged its staffing hours and payroll to be able to open again on Mondays.

Miller said the move was made to better serve the library’s patrons. She said the more the library is open, the more people will be able to utilize its services and not be forced to go to libraries in other towns.

Opening on Mondays will not impact the libraries other hours, which Miller said will remain the same.

Come spring, the library board will access the budget implications of reopening on Mondays to see whether it can continue to open on Mondays.
