PROSPECT — Benjamin P. Miranda, 70, husband of Carol (Henriques) Miranda, died peacefully on Oct. 24, 2019 at Smilow Cancer Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Benjamin was born on Nov. 18, 1948 in Monte-Murtosa, Portugal, son of the late Benjamin E. and Hilda (Pinho) Miranda. Benjamin lived in Prospect for the past 30 years and had retired from AT&T, where he worked as an engineer. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of Clube Uniao Portuguesa and the Portuguese Sport Club.

In addition to his wife, Carol, Benjamin is survived by his son, Paul Miranda and his wife, Heather Miranda, of Southington; his daughter, Carrie Zimmitti and her husband, Frank Zimmitti, of Prospect; his grandchildren, Justin, Sam, Sophie, Amalia and Matteo; his sister, Maria DeOliveira of Florida, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by his sister, Hilda Tomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of the wonderful nursing care Benjamin received, memorial contributions can be made to the Oncology Nursing Fund.
