NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Erminda Ramos Batista, 103, the widow of Joao Batista, died peacefully on March 16, 2020, at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Erminda was born on Nov. 23, 1916, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, daughter of the late Augusto and Joaquina Ramos Tribanas. Mrs. Batista retired from the Naugatuck Glass Company and she was a member of the Ladies of the Rosary and St. Vincent de Paul always a devout and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Mrs. Batista is survived by her son, Carlos S. Batista and his wife, Maria B. Batista; her daughters, Teresa Alves and her husband, Manuel Alves, Fernanda Martins and her husband, Jose Martins, and Maria Fatima Gomes; her 11 grandchildren, Carlos Gomes, Augie Gomes, retired warden John Alves, David Alves, Danny Alves, Rosa Maria Martins Felix, Jose Martins, Michelle Batista, Paula Batista DiMatteo, Carla Batista Reis and Carlos Batista Jr.; additionally she leaves 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Joao Batista, and her parents, Mrs. Batista was predeceased by her son-in-law, Manuel Gomes, eight of her children, and two great-granddaughters.

She is also predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Carlos Tribanas, Maria Rodrigues, Antonio Tribanas, Delfina Tribanas, Paulo and Artur Tribanas.

Erminda’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Glendale Center and Seasons Hospice for the excellent care and compassionate support that they provided her, as well as repeated visits from her many friends and acquaintances.

Her pride and joy were time spent with the flowers in her garden and most recently the many, many children and grandchildren around her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at Our Lady of Fatima Church Waterbury. Eventually, final burial will be in Seara Velha, Concelho de Chaves, Portugal. There are no calling hours at this time, and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
