John Anson Davis

Mr. John Anson Davis, 83, of Venice, Fla., departed this world on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, after a brief illness. He was a longtime resident of Naugatuck for over 50 years. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary S. Davis, now of Venice, Fla. They were married for 60 years.

John Anson was born in Albany, Vt., on Feb. 25, 1936, son of Irving Davis and Ila Davis of Norton, Mass.

Besides his wife, Mary, Anson leaves behind his children, Robin Davis of Venice, Fla., Michael Davis of Tennessee and Jack Davis of Middlebury. He was predeceased by his son, Barry J. Davis; his parents; his sisters, Arlene Bates of Bellows Falls, VTt., and Wanda Anderson of Norton, Mass.; and his brothers, Carlton Davis, Elwood Davis and Robert Davis, all of Massachusetts.

He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Jayce C. Davis of Colorado, Elise Killer-Migliore of New York and Karl A. Killer of West Haven; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Vermont, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Arizona.

Anson worked as a heavy equipment operator for Harrelson Construction, and travelled out west and all across Connecticut installing gas pipeline. His hobbies were boating, building model trains and gardening. Anson enjoyed his retirement and spent his time outside, wintering in Florida, enjoying his Boston terrier, Topper, and being with his family. We will miss his quick wit, his wonderful smile, his beautiful blue eyes and his fighting spirit.

Due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus, Anson’s graveside service will be announced at a later date. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org), or to a charity of one’s choice.
