PROSPECT — John “Jack” Murphy, 79, of Prospect, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Glendale Center surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Sarah “Sally” (McCann) Murphy for over 60 years.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1940 in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late John and Rae Allison (Eckle) Murphy. Prior to his retirement, he was the department head of automotive technologies at W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. He was a life member of the NRA, Bristol Fish and Game Club, the Woodbury/Southbury Rod and Gun Club, and the Mattatuck Drum Band.

Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and unwavering friend. He was an avid sportsman, conservationist, and a man of many hobbies and interests. He was quick with a joke and always had a smile for everyone. Jack truly loved life and time spent with family and friends.

Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his children, Sally Guglielmo and husband, Stephen, of Avon, Jack Murphy and wife, Lola, of Prospect, and Kevin Murphy and wife, Kelley, of Prospect; two sisters, Elaine Skewis of Florida and Carol Higgins of Michigan. He also leaves his grandchildren, Christa Cubeta and husband, David, of California, Dana, Stephanie and Stephen Guglielmo, and Erin and Rachel Murphy, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Fabas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect.
