BEACON FALLS — Nathan Edward Russell, 94, of Beacon Falls, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Nathan was born in Beacon Falls on Feb. 23, 1925, son of the late William Henry Russell and Edith (Wersig) Russell. He was a lifetime resident of Beacon Falls and was a retired heavy equipment operator.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Los Angeles.

He was a man of many talents, building his own home from the ground up, and enjoyed spending his free time hunting, gardening, fishing, and being the family handyman. He was an avid horse racing, Yankees and UConn women’s basketball fan.

Mr. Russell is survived by his son, Thomas Russell; his daughter, Debra Daigle and her husband, Arthur; his grandchildren, Thomas J. Russell and his wife, Kristina (Calca) Russell, Jennifer Russell and Lisa Daigle; several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, all who he loved dearly.

Nathan was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Groccia) Russell; his grandson, Nicholas Daigle; and his siblings, Anna May, Betty, Beulah “Boots,” Dora, Edith, Eleanor, Frank, Fred, Henry, James, Leonard and Viola.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Active Day of Middlebury for the kind and compassionate care given to Nathan over the past few years.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 29 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Alderson- Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., followed by a service to begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pines Bridge Cemetery.
