Patricia Ann (Scielzo) Hughes

NAUGATUCK — Patricia Ann (Scielzo) Hughes, 75, beloved wife of William Hughes Sr., entered into heaven on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a courageous battle with COVID-19.

Patricia was born in Bridgeport on Nov. 3, 1944, the daughter of the late Jiro and Jeanette (Zielinski) Scielzo. She was a graduate of Bunnell High School and a longtime resident of Naugatuck.

Patty had an eclectic career but settled down at Fiserv in Wallingford. After retirement, she did what she loved to do the most, spending time with her family. Patty was her family’s heart and soul. She always made sure we got together for every holiday and summer weekend. Patty, known by all as “Giggi,” enjoyed having her family over to her and “Poppy’s” house so she could show us her latest shopping find, put out quite the spread, relax in the pool and tell us stories of our childhoods, and of her own, no matter how embarrassing. Patty was well known for her gift of gab, infectious laugh, hilarious sense of humor, and for making friends with everyone she met. She was loving, generous and kind. She will forever be our angel watching over us.

Besides her husband of 48 years, Patty leaves her sons, Richard Clinton and William Hughes Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Christine (Clinton) and James Janiszcak; her grandchildren, Rachael Clinton, Jenna Janiszcak and Kaitlyn Nappi; her great-granddaughter, Skyler Clinton; her brother-in-law and his wife, Kenneth and Patricia Hughes, and her “adopted” daughter Theresa Dallis. She also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends including life-long friends, Carolyn Miller, Patty Brannigan and Sandra Braccioforte. Patty was predeceased by her brother, Salvatore Scielzo; her sister, Janet Anderson; her nephews, Sal Scielzo and Robert Anderson; and many other cherished family members.

A group service is not possible now, but one will be planned for the future. At this time, the family will honor Patty’s life privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Patty’s memory may be made out to the Naugatuck Valley
Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
