Salvatrice "Lena" (Calvo) Bosco

PROSPECT — Mrs. Salvatrice “Lena” (Calvo) Bosco, 93, of Prospect, died Tuesday, July 26, at the Middlebury Convalescent Home after a brief illness.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Vincent Bosco, founder of Bosco Dodge in Naugatuck.

Mrs. Bosco was born in Terryville on April 12, 1918, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Grazia Calvo. She moved to Waterury at the age of 6, graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School in 1937 and for a time during World War II worked at Timex on Cherry Avenue. Lena was a long time resident of Prospect and was a communicant of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Prospect. While helping with the family businesses, Lena raised a family of four in their Prospect home. Earlier in her life she enjoyed gardening, visiting relatives in Italy and once climbed Mt. Washington with her husband and children. Later in life she kept active with cooking, card games, Scrabble, Sudoku and reading the Bible.

Lena is survived by her children, Joseph Bosco and his wife Sue of Ranson, W.V., Sandra Desmarais and her husband Larry of Wolcott, David Bosco and his wife Carol of Waterbury, and James Bosco and his wife Cindy of Bedford, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Desmarais and his wife Joanna, Robert Desmarais and his wife Crystal, Alex Bosco and his wife Allison, Andrew Bosco, Laura Bosco, Lynn Bosco and her partner Mike Breen, Benjamin Bosco, and Gabriella Bosco; three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan Desmarais and Madeline Breen, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by five siblings, Carmello, Joseph, Frank, and Anthony Calvo, and Sue Garro.

Mrs. Bosco’s family wishes to thank the staff of Middlebury Convalescent Home and VITAS for the excellent care that they provided.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 29, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum in Waterbury. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect on Thursday July 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
