Naugatuck police recently filed the following charges:

Johvanny Herrera, 43, of 14 Linwood Ave., Huntington, N.Y., was charged Feb. 25 with violation of probation.

Police reported on Feb. 25 at approximately 12:59 p.m. Herrera was brought to the Naugatuck Police Department by state probation officers. Herrera had an active violation of probation warrant. Herrera was held on a court-set $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 26.

Tara Lynn Kotsaftis, 44, of 461 Piedmont St., Waterbury, was charged Feb. 25 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on Feb. 25 at approximately 2 p.m. Kotsaftis voluntarily surrendered on an active failure to appear warrant. Kotsaftis was released on a $2,500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 6.

Pedro Robert Martinez, 39, of 183 Perkins Ave., Waterbury, was charged Feb. 25 with third-degree assault.

Police reported on Feb. 25 at approximately 8:42 p.m. Waterbury police arrested Martinez, which the Naugatuck Police Department held an active arrest warrant for. The warrant was for an assault that occurred on Dec. 30 2018, police reported. Officers responded to Waterbury Police Department to take Martinez into custody. Martinez was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 26.

Delmont Staples, 39, of 24 Eagle St., Torrington, was charged Feb. 26 with two counts of fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy.

Police reported on Feb. 26 Staples was arrested on an active arrest warrant at Waterbury Superior Court. The warrant was from an incident where Staples stole multiple items from Walmart with an accomplice on June 25, 2018 on two occasions during the same evening, police reported. Staples was held to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 26.

Shannon B. Crosby, 50, of 6 Smith St., Derby, was charged Feb. 26 with violation of probation.

Police reported on Feb. 26 Crosby was arrested on a violation of probation. Crosby was released on a $25,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 27.

Andreu McCarthy, 28, of 15 1/2 Hillside Ave., Naugatuck, was charged Feb. 26 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on Feb. 26 at approximately 7:58 p.m. McCarthy was arrested on an active failure to appear arrest warrant. McCarthy was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 6.

Rachel Groll, 29, of 23 Salem St., Naugatuck, was charged Feb. 27 with first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft, conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft, third-degree forgery, third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary.

Police reported on Feb. 27 Groll was arrested on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was from a larceny and fraud incident that was reported to the Naugatuck Police Department on Dec. 13, 2018 in which Groll took approximately $56,302.56 from the victim, police reported. Groll was held on a $25,000 surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 28.

Brian Davis, 34, of 58 Arch St., Hamden, was charged Feb. 28 with violation of protective order.

Police reported Davis was taken into custody after an investigation determined that he was in violation of a standing criminal protective order. Davis was released after posting the court-set bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 1.

Daniel J. Wasik, 65, of 149 Longview Terrace, Naugatuck, was charged Feb. 28 with driving under the influence, reckless driving and drinking while driving.

Police reported an officer observed Wasik operating his vehicle on Spring Street and initiated a traffic stop after he was seen striking the curb. Police reported Wasik failed field tests and was taken into custody. Wasik was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

Cedric Lamarr Middleton, 30, of 32 Anderson St., Naugatuck, was charged March 1 with interfering with an officer, third-degree criminal trespass, reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.

Police reported on March 1 at approximately 11:47 p.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of Elm Street and Spencer Street. Police reported Middleton stopped at first but then later engaged the officer in pursuit. The operator later stopped on Water Company Property in the Elm Street area. Police reported Middleton fled the area on foot and later turned himself in after the officer found who he was and made contact. Middleton was released on a $5,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on April 13.

Phylicia Maia, 31, of 9 Thunderbird Drive, Naugatuck, was charged March 1 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 1 Maia was arrested on an active failure to appear arrest warrant. Maia was released on a $500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on March 19.

Christian Oliver Lopez, 19, of 150 Greenwood Ave., Waterbury, was charged March 1 with second-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 1 Lopez was served an active arrest warrant charging him with a motor vehicle theft that occurred in the area of 348 Spring St. that occurred on Dec. 19, 2018. Lopez was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in
Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

Kiara Chaneece Nixon, 25, of 32 Bank St., Derby, was charged March 2 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 2 officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed Nixon conceal items totaling over $127.75 and exit the store without paying for items. Nixon was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

Matthew Demers, 33, of 70 Olive St., Naugatuck, was charged March 2 with possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police reported on March 2 at approximately 1:02 a.m. an officer initiated a motor vehicle investigation in the area of 110 Rubber Ave. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, Demers was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, without minimum insurance, and in possession of marijuana. Demers was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

Darrin Bosco, 20, of 627 Millville Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 2 with disorderly conduct.

Police reported on March 2 at approximately 1:14 a.m. officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that Bosco became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, Bosco struck the victim several times. Bosco was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 4.

Ricardo Andujar, 22, of 41 Concord St., Waterbury, was charged March 2 with second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.

Police reported on March 2 at approximately 4:08 a.m. officers responded to the area of 471 Spring St. on a suspicious person complaint that involved damage to a motor vehicle with the vehicle later fleeing the area. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that Andujar caused damage to the motor vehicle and operated a motor vehicle without a license. Andujar was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

Michael S. Merithew, 36, of 90 Burton St., Watertown, was charged March 3 with criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.

Police reported on March 3 Merithew was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from an incident that occurred on Jan. 4, 2019 where Merithew impersonated another person during a traffic stop. Merithew was held on a $2,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 13.

John Francis Leahy, 41, of 597 Millville Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 3 with driving under the influence.

Police reported on March 3 at approximately 12:14 p.m. an officer was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the area of 597 Millville Ave. Through the officer’s investigation, police reported, Leahy was found to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Leahy was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 14.

Stephen James Knapik, 85, of 3 Pierce Lane, Naugatuck, was charged March 3 with disorderly conduct.

Police reported on March 3 at approximately 4:49 p.m. officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that Knapik became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, Knapik pushed the victim down some steps in the front of the residence. Knapik was released on a $500 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 4.

Dave Roberts Jr., 42, of 50 East Waterbury Road, Naugatuck, was charged March 3 with disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal trespass.

Police reported on March 3 at approximately 10:34 p.m. officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Police reported it was discovered through the investigation that Roberts was found to be intoxicated when officers arrived on scene. Police reported Roberts became involved in an argument with the victim that escalated and became physical when, according to the victim, Roberts pushed the victim fighting over a bottle of alcohol. Roberts was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond to appear in Waterbury Superior Court March 4.

Monica Kaur Grewal, 22, of 2 Washburn St., Willimantic, was charged March 4 with sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 4 officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed Grewal conceal items totaling over $58.84 and exit the store without paying for items. Grewal was released on a promise to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.

Andrew J. Ciaccio, 33, of 193 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck, was charged March 5 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 5 Ciaccio was arrested on an active failure to appear arrest warrant. Ciaccio was held on a $500 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 5.

Denisha K. Wells, 32, of 65 Angel Drive, Waterbury, was charged March 5 with risk of injury to child and sixth-degree larceny.

Police reported on March 5 at approximately 12:28 p.m. officers were dispatched to Walmart, 1100 New Haven Road, on a report of a shoplifting from the store. Police reported loss prevention advised that they observed Wells, in the presence of small children in her care, conceal merchandise totaling over $473.02 and exit the store without paying for items. Wells was released on a $2,000 non-surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 20.

Inga Martin, 38, of 98 Clinton St., Waterbury, was charged March 5 with second-degree failure to appear.

Police reported on March 5 Martin was arrested on an active failure to appear arrest warrant. Martin was released on a $1,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 14.

Daniel Mathew Buczek, 31, of 64 Park Ave., Naugatuck, was charged Feb. 28 with reckless driving.

Gina Cimino, 60, of 223 Cheshire Road, Prospect, was charged March 1 with third-degree assault.
