BEACON FALLS — The Woodland golf team started 3-0 on the season, but not in the way that head coach Bill Carangelo was hoping to get there.

In the Hawks’ second match of the season last Thursday, a round of 188 was good enough to get by Wilby as the Wildcats shot a 267.

Josh Hassan was the medalist with a 43 followed by Julian Perino with a 45. Alec Feducia and Chris Guerrette both shot a 50 for Woodland.

“You are not going to beat too many teams shooting a 188,” Carangelo said. “We definitely need to get our scores down.”

If the coach wasn’t pleased with the team’s round versus Wilby, he definitely wasn’t happy with Monday’s result against Sacred Heart. Playing on their home course at Oxford Greens, the Hawks walked away with the win by a slim 206-208 score.

“We were horrible,” Carangelo said. “I know the weather hasn’t been in our favor as far as getting out there for practice but everyone is in the same position. All I know is we need to get better. We can’t consistently be shooting in the high 40s and 50s and expect to continue to win like this.”

Hassan was the medalist for the second match in a row with a 47. Perino was right behind him with a 48. Feducia shot a 54 and Guerrette shot a 57 to round out the scoring for Woodland.

“We need to get back out there and work on some things,” Carangelo said. “I told them we need to get it together. We will regroup over the next two days and hopefully we will have a much better round against Holy Cross.

“We are definitely better than that. I know we haven’t been able to get a lot of practices in but it’s been the same for all the other teams. But now that the season has started we need to get going.”

Woodland will play Holy Cross on Thursday then travel to Watertown on April 24 to face two-time defending NVL champion Watertown.
