Boys Soccer

On Sept. 19 Woodland (2-5) defeated Sacred Heart 4-0. Thomas Bethin scored twice for the visiting Hawks. Sam Merriman added a goal and an assist. Jack LaPerriere also scored, and Christian Poirier had an assist. Brandon Ocetnik stopped 12 shots for Woodland. The Hawks fell 4-0 Tuesday to Bunnell, and 7-0 Wednesday versus Torrington Wednesday. Ocetnik made 10 saves against Bunnell and 14 versus Torrington. Woodland returns home Friday to host Oxford.

Girls Soccer

The Hawks (5-2) got defensive last week shutting out Metropolitan Learning Center Sept. 17 and Sacred Heart Sept. 19 by a combined score of 15-0. Alexa Casimiro scored two goals with an assist for the Hawks against MLC. Maribella Sousa had a goal with two assists, as Samantha Plasky and Megan Lynch each scored a goal with an assist. Haley Andrews, Jess Rodrigues, and Gillian Hotchkiss also scored. Jenna Pannone made one save for Woodland. Sousa tacked on another three goals versus Sacred Heart. Hotchkiss added a goal and two assists, and Marisa Macek, Andrews and Jess Rodrigues also scored for Woodland. Pannone made two saves. The Hawks topped Bunnell 2-1 Tuesday. Casimiro had a goal and an assist for the host Hawks. Savanah Aviz also scored while Sousa added an assist for Woodland. Pannone made five saves. Woodland topped Torrington Wednesday 4-2. Sousa tallied a pair of goals for the Hawks in Beacon Falls. Sam Plasky scored one goal and one assist while Aviz chipped in with a goal. Rodrigues dished out two assists and Shae Geary added one. Pannone made six saves for Woodland. The Hawks will host Naugatuck Monday.

Naugy Notes

Boys Soccer

The Greyhounds (7-0) have continued their wining ways. On Sept. 19 Naugy downed Oxford 2-0. The ‘Hounds followed that up with a 2-0 victory over St. Paul on Monday. Danny Silva and Josh Aviles netted goals for the Greyhounds as they grabbed the NVL win in Naugatuck. Danny Martins had an assist for Naugatuck, while Enzo Pereira and Rabbi Ahmed combined for four saves and a shutout. Naugatuck rolled past Derby 6-1 Wednesday. Felipe Dutra, Devon Curtis, Aviles and Martins also found the net for Naugatuck. Ahmed made four saves for the Greyhounds. Naugy hosts Torrington next Wednesday.

Football

The Greyhounds had a bye last week. Naugatuck returns to action Friday at home versus Holy Cross for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Girls Soccer

After dropping their first three games of the season, Naugy won the next four to pull to 4-3 on the year. The Greyhounds earned their second win in a 5-2 victory over Oxford Sept. 19. Sara Marques had three goals and an assist for the Greyhounds. Hannah Lauer and Taylor Campos also scored while Sophie Boucher and Cassidy Baranowski combined for six saves for Naugatuck. On Monday Naugatuck downed St. Paul 5-1. Hailey Boulanger scored twice for Naugatuck. Lauer, Makayla Teixeira and Lily Detuzzi also scored for the Greyhounds. Boucher saved seven shots. Naugatuck beat Derby 7-0 Wednesday. Teixeira notched a pair of goals as the Greyhounds. Campos, Sara Marques, Hailey Boulanger, Lily Detuzzi and Jami Dwy all finished with one goal. The Greyhounds host Watertown on Friday and will visit Woodland Monday.
