Game-winner

Kieran DeBiase, former Woodland girls soccer player who now plays for Southern Connecticut State University, scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over LeMoyne Oct. 12.

The lone goal

Naugatuck senior Gabe Carrelo scored the only goal in the Greyhounds’ 1-0 win over Torrington on Monday. The Greyhounds improved to 10-0-2 on the season.

Leading the way

Naugatuck senior Michelle Cordova scored 18 service points as the Greyhounds swept past Wilby, 3-0, Oct. 12.

Bulldozing for yardage

Woodland senior Isaac Negron ran for 182 yards on 35 carries, scored two touchdowns and accounted for all the Hawks’ receiving yards with two catches for 23 yards in a 46-14 loss to Wolcott Oct. 14.

Court presence

Naugatuck junior Molly Kennedy scored 17 service points with six aces and six kills as the Greyhounds swept Oxford, 3-0, Oct. 14.

Boys Soccer

Naugatuck shut out St. Paul, 3-0, Oct. 14. Tom Martins led the way with two goals. Christian Jacobi added the only other goal. Vinny Knupp, Jacobi, Gabe Carrelo and Matt Carroll had assists. Aren Seeger and Zach Alves combined for 10 saves in the net. On Monday, the Greyhounds improved to 10-0-2 with a 1-0 win over Torrington. Gabe Carrelo scored the game’s only goal. Naugatuck will host Oxford on Friday. The Greyhounds will wrap up the regular season next week with Kennedy Oct. 24, Derby Oct. 25 and Watertown Oct. 26.

Girls Soccer

The Greyhounds came up on the short end of a 4-3 final to St. Paul Oct. 14. Hailey Boulanger scored two goals to pace the Greyhounds. Kaitlyn Reilly added the other Naugy goal. Cassidy Baranowski recorded 10 saves in the net. The Greyhounds improved to 6-7 with a 3-0 win over Torrington on Tuesday and a 7-1 win over Derby on Wednesday. Alyana Sosa, Paige Cruz and Kaci Michaud each scored versus Torrington. Baranowski and Sydney O’Donnell combined for five saves. The Greyhounds spread the scoring around versus Derby. Michaud had two goals, Hailey Boulanger, Alissa McNeil, Macie Best, Cruz and Reilly all had one. The Greyhounds will visit Oxford on Friday and close out the regular season next week with Woodland Oct. 24 and Watertown Oct. 26.

Boys Soccer

Woodland ran into a tough Sacred Heart squad Oct. 14 and battled to a 1-1 tie. Anthony Barreira scored the only Hawks’ goal on an assist from Senol Music. A.J. Oliveira made five saves in the net. The Hawks improved to 10-1-2 with a 2-0 win over Holy Cross Tuesday. Barreira and Jack LaPerriere scored for Woodland. Oliveira made six saves. Woodland will host Ansonia on Friday and close out the regular season next week against Waterbury Career Oct. 24 and Crosby Oct. 26.

Girls Soccer  

The Hawks steamrolled Sacred Heart Oct. 14 by an 8-0 margin. Jenna Pannone and Alanna Carasone split the duties in the net recording the shutout. Nicole Sherman and Hailey Boris scored two goals each to pace the offense. Haley Andrews, Jillian Barbarito, Molly Hussey and Gillian Hotchkiss added goals for Woodland. Shannon Pruzinsky had two assists with Hotchkiss, Juliana Villano, Andrews, Megan Sirowich and Julia Casimiro also lending assists. On Saturday, Woodland tied Bethel of the South West Conference, 0-0. The Hawks improved to 11-1-1 with a 2-0 win over Holy Cross on Tuesday. Casimiro and Sam Plasky scored for the Hawks. Julia Accetura and Casimiro had assists. Pannone made seven saves in net. Woodland will visit Ansonia on Friday before wrapping up the regular season next week with Naugatuck Oct. 24 and Torrington Oct. 24.
