Naugatuck senior Shane Swierbitowicz made his presence felt in the paint with 18 points against Wilby on Dec. 22 in a 62-55 win for the Greyhounds.

Woodland sophomore point guard Justin Marks is directing the offense and was second on the team with 13 points Dec. 22 in a 69-54 loss to Seymour.

Shooting the lights out

Naugatuck senior Josh McFarland is quickly becoming a go-to guy. He led the Greyhounds with 21 points in a 62-55 win over Wilby on Dec. 22.

Diving in

Woodland sophomore Riley Clark won the diving event in both meets so far this season. His score of 214.70 against Northwestern on Dec. 22 was 8.4 points off the school record.

An emerging scorer

Naugatuck senior Alyana Sosa scored a career-high 10 points in the Greyhounds’ 58-14 win over Wilby on Dec. 22.

Boys Basketball

The Greyhounds broke into the win column with a 62-55 victory over Wilby on Dec. 22. Josh McFarland had a game-high 21 points for Naugatuck. Shane Swierbitowicz was right behind him with 18 points. Naugatuck fell to 1-2 on the year Tuesday with a 79-52 loss to undefeated Holy Cross. Jean Lukau-Mbalandaka hit on four 3-pointers and led Naugatuck with 18 points. The Greyhounds will be on the road for their next three games starting Friday at Bethel. Naugatuck will visit St. Paul on Jan. 3 before heading to Woodland on Jan. 6.

Girls Basketball

The Hawks (2-1) are on an extended break for the holiday. Woodland will be back in action on Jan. 3 when the Hawks host Watertown. The Hawks will then hit the road to face rival Naugatuck on Jan. 6.
