All-around game

Naugatuck’s Brielle Behuniak led the ‘Hounds to a 3-0 sweep of Watertown last Friday with an all-around performance. The sophomore scored 21 points, including seven aces, and lent 24 assists.

Trio of touchdowns

Woodland senior Ben Nuss racked up 150 yards rushing on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns last Thursday in the Hawks’ convincing 57-30 victory over Sacred Heart-Kaynor Tech.

Hat trick on the pitch

Woodland junior Maciej Lewicki sparked the Hawks’ offense last Thursday by finding the back of the net three times in a 7-2 win over St. Paul.

Game-changer

Naugatuck senior Jayden Anderson came up with the game-changing play last Friday in a 30-26 win over Torrington. The Raiders had the momentum and the ball late in the game when Anderson broke through the line to record a sack that for a 14-yard loss to take Torrington out of its rhythm.

Higher learning

Former Naugatuck Greyhound Angelina Piccirillo earned Student-Athlete of Week honors at Albertus Magnus following last Friday’s 2-2 tie against Rivier University. Piccirillo assisted on both goals for Albertus Magnus, bringing her to 18 in her career, a school record.

Boys soccer

The Naugatuck boys stand at 6-1 after wins over Derby, 5-1, last Friday and Sacred Heart, 2-1, on Tuesday. Tommy Martins scored two goals against Derby with Vinny Knupp, Christian Jacobi and Chris Akindura adding a goal. Jake Corbo, Jared McNeil, Akinduro and Knupp all recorded assists. Matt Carroll and Chris Akinduro accounted for Naugatuck’s goals against Sacred Heart. Aren Seeger made two saves in net. Naugy is back in action at Ansonia on Friday.

Girls soccer

Naugatuck improved to 5-1 on the season by making quick work of Derby last Friday in a 6-0 win and beating Sacred Heart, 4-1, on Tuesday. Emma Sonski led the way versus Derby with two goals. Macie Best, Paige Cruz, Aalyiah Henry and Alyana Sosa all added goals.  On Tuesday, Sosa led the way with two goals. Hailey Boulanger and Makayla Teixeira added goals, and Sonski and Noelle Jacobi had assists. Naugy played Brookfield on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will finish out the week Friday at home against Ansonia.

Boys soccer

Woodland has suddenly found its offense. The Hawks beat St. Paul, 7-2, last Friday. It was the second straight game Woodland scored seven goals. Maciej Lewicki led the way with three goals. Senol Music, Andrew Spofford, Juliano D’Amelio and Cole Barrows all added a goal. On Tuesday, the Hawks faced undefeated Watertown and came away with a 2-2 tie. Christian Poirer scored both goals for Woodland (3-3-1), and D’Amelio recorded six saves in the net. The Hawks will host Wilby on Friday.

Girls soccer

After dropping their first game of the season to Watertown three weeks ago, the Hawks ripped off four straight shutout victories. The latest was a 2-0 win over St. Paul last Friday. Karly Laliberte scored both goals. Haley Andrews and Shannon Pruzinsky had the assists, and Alanna Carasone made six saves in the net. On Tuesday, the Hawks got some revenge by beating Watertown, 3-2, to improve to 5-1 on the season. Megen Sirowich, Laliberte and Holly Plasky scored, and Andrews, Pruzinski and Julianna Villano added assists. Woodland will be back in action Tuesday at Wolcott.
