BEACON FALLS — The Woodland boys and girls indoor track teams showed progress at the Shoreline Coaches’ Meet last Saturday.

The girls produced several state qualifiers.

Jazmyn Menzies continues to be a standout jumper. Menzies finished sixth in the long jump, with a 15-foot, 7-inch distance. In the high jump, Menzies leaped 5 feet and took second.

In the 55 meter hurdles, Christine and Michelle Angrand ran qualifying times. Christine Angrand ran a time of 10.11 seconds, while Michelle Angrand ran a time of 10.29. Both times are among the duo’s best times in the event, according to girls coach Jeff Lownds.

In the 4-by-800, the Hawks finished eighth with Clara Drozdowski, Emma Poryanda, Bianca Poehailos, Lisa Thrasher running their best time of the season in 10:51. It was also a state qualifying time.

Drozdowski also qualified in the 1,000 meters and ran a 3:21.84. Kelsey Mitchell also qualified in the 1,000 with a time of 3:30.02.

“Girls are progressing fairly well so far,” Lownds said. “We will continue to work hard and try to have as many state qualifiers as possible.”

The boys had several notable finishes as well.

Drew Chura had the highest finish for the team in the pole vault at 10 feet and finished sixth.

Jeff Giusto, Paul Jones, Zach Norieka and Jeff Moffatt finished eighth in the 4-by-800 with a time of 9:20.76.

In the sprint medley relay, David Bobbie, Jeff Webster, Isah Miller and Guisto ran for a time of 4:09.55 and took 10th.

“The younger boys are coming along nicely and are improving everyday,” Woodland boys head coach Tim Shea said. “We need some of our older guys to get healthy. The next couple of weeks will tell a lot about where we are at.”

The Hawks are scheduled to compete in meets the next two Saturdays, including one in Glastonbury this weekend and the NVL Developmental meet next weekend at Weslyan University in Middletown.
