BEACON FALLS — The Woodland girls tennis team beat Naugatuck Wednesday to advance to the Naugatuck Valley League title match.

The No. 2 Hawks, defending NVL champions, got past the No. 3 Greyhounds by a slim, 4-3 margin, in what was a rematch of last year’s final.

Woodland won three of the four singles matches. In No. 1 singles, Woodland’s Allison Mayne defeated Sarah Cook, 8-3. In No. 2 singles, Katie Rioux beat Liz Perez, 9-8, and in No. 4 singles, Amanda Doughney defeated Tatiana Serrano, 9-8.

Woodland’s Erica Boccuzzi and Paige Gainey defeated Naugatuck’s Abigail Jang and Floraine Evardo in No. 1 doubles, 8-4.

Naugatuck’s Kelly Carr beat Daphne Cianciolo, 8-5, in No. 3 singles. In No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, Kelly Murphy and Ally Mezzo of Naugatuck defeated Alyssa Varieso and Chloe Ariola, 8-6, while Karla Iglesias and Crystal Wooster beat Angelina Padilla and Alex Pettas, 8-1.

Woodland will face No. 4-seeded Watertown in the final. Watertown upset No. 1 Wolcott, 4-3, in their semifinal match.

The girls and boys finals are Saturday at Woodland starting at 11 a.m. The six boys singles matches will start first. The first three girls singles matches will begin on the first three courts available. The next three available courts will then have the three boys doubles matches. The next courts available will hold the final girls singles match, then the girls doubles matches.

Woodland reached the semifinal match versus Naugatuck after beating Holy Cross, 5-2, in the quarterfinals on Monday. Naugatuck defeated Kennedy, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
