Woodland, Naugy wrap swim season

The Woodland and Naugatuck girls’ swimming and diving teams wrapped up their seasons earlier this month in state meet competition.

Woodland finished ninth out of 26 teams at the Class S meet while Naugy placed 19th out of 20 teams at the Class L meet.

Dayna Chucta of Woodland took third in the diving event as she earned 326.60 points and advanced to the State Open, where she placed 21st with a score of 318.95.

Chucta wasn’t the only top-three finisher for the Hawks, which also featured Katie-Jean Hinckley’s third-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle—nearly six seconds behind the race winner, Stephanie Ternullo of East Catholic.

Amanda Gagne (28th) and Whitney Stow (36th) also participated in the 200 free.
Hinckley also placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 25.73 seconds, while Gagne finished 24th in 6:25.12.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Woodland’s Chrissy Leeper placed 17th with a time of 2:28.68. Leeper also took 19th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.93.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Sydney Corneau and Emily Soulier took 20th and 22nd, respectively, for the Hawks. Corneau also took 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.51.

In the relays, Emily Trumbley, Carolyn Luddy, Anna Boris, and Stow took 17th in the 200-yard medley. In the 200-yard freestyle, Corneau, Soulier, Leeper and Hinckley were sixth.

In the 400-yard freestyle, Corneau, Gagne, Leeper and Hinckley placed ninth.

For Naugatuck at the Class L meet, Angela Boutote, Sarah Konops, Nicole Javins and Amanda Miller took 16th in the 200 medley relay. In 200 free relay, Melissa Kirschbaum, Jocelyn Brantley, Elizabeth Walsh and Miller took 18th overall.

In the 400 free relay, Walsh, Doback, Konops and Javins placed 18th.

Individually, Konops placed 23rd in the 100 breaststroke.
